relevant because i just got into making my own prints since i got a printer

i have been wondering
am i imposing stupid restricitons on myself when worrying about topology when it comes to printing?
I can have large quads turning into rediculious ngons and my only real limitation is the nozzle on my printer, right? I feel like I have been wasting my time trying to get neat models for no reason when I could be saving time just booleaning them together

I downloaded a simple low poly stl file, then opened it in blender just to add a text engraving to it and the STL file size went from 1mb to 180mb, any ideas why?
