Season 1 was good times because the director got to do what he wanted with the given property and chose to mix the Kemono Friends universe with a story he made up roughly half a decade prior. It blew up and got crazy popular. So crazy popular, Kadokawa, the owners of the property, kicked the S1 director off the show as well as the studio that made S1 and brought on their own soulless corporate assets to make a season 2. It would have been okay, but they did everything they possibly could to shit on season 1 as hard as possible. They shat on the MC of season 1 at every opportunity they could while pushing the new MC of season 2 as being vastly superior and those kinds of shenanigans.
