It's nice to see that there are people on this board taking 3d seriously. Too many people only want to create cartoons and anime, and their characters may be proportioned right, but their anatomy is off, or is just not there due to the nature of the style. None of those types of people will make it into the industry with appealing characters that have simple anatomy, because ultimately the people who consume art care about anatomy, not proportion or appeal.

literally the opposite, and I say this as a person who studied anatomy for decades

You don't get industry jobs for doing anatomy studies. People can start from body scans and automatically correct basemeshes with diagrams at hand. You get them for appeal and proportions because they want art direction.

This isn't to say that you shouldn't study anatomy at all, but to claim that it's more important than appeal and proportion/shape-language is flat out wrong.
