What's a good small, fast image browser for someone who works in 3D? I usually want to separate alpha channel, look at it individually and have some basic tools like in irfanview

XnView and/or Faststone. Wish irfanview supported transparency ... I use all three of these

It does though. At least mine does.
You can even look at each channel individually
