๐Ÿงต Texture projection / extraction from photos

Anonymous No. 894278

PBR materials and photoscanning are industry standard nowadays, but I really want to do textures the old-school way using photosourcing.

The best I've been able to find is this tool called Texture Ripper. It's over 10 years old at this point, requires Adobe Air and crashes frequently.

Is this really the only way to do it? How were artists ripping textures beforehand?

Thanks

noticed this too, missing the shift drag to extend + bezier transform handles . But I also noticed this works on my phone. Its good to be able to get some work done outside on mobile; hate being chained to my PC

on mobile, It helps if you scale/crop the photo before import since grabbing the handles is slightly tricky so reducing any extra area of the image will make working with the pan/zoom/pin tools easier. Its not perfect, but this is a start, and better than any current options I've found on mobile

Alright I can't figure out how to export the texture from the web app, besides clicking the "open with instagram" option; Upload to instagram, and the app will save a copy locally lmao . all other ways of saving the texture resulted in a blank image .. absurd

your shadows are baked into your albedo, making the texture useless. Use substance suite

Nvm you can also text it to yourself (still retarded)

removing shadows isnt exactly hard. there's a one click shadow remover in PS lol

>texture projection
This is easily doable in any 3D software like Blender or Maya. Just model your object and UV project.

Not sure why you think you need some specialised program for it.

Can't you just use Phoshtop?

I don't like to be glued to my PC, I like being outside, and this allows me to get preparatory work out of the way on the go. Also simplifies the process of packing a texture sheet for games, when all your prop's textures are squared like this. Also, reusability for other assets when necessary; you won't need to reproject anything

Sure, I use the perspective crop tool inside PS all the time; however the shoebox application lets you perspective warp multiple parts of a single image, adding it to an atlas as you work. a small but tangible optimization to the specific workflow ie: create a collage of all the images you want to extract textures from, bring that collage to shoebox, rip what you need, and end up with an atlas ready for use

Adobe Scan is the new mobile perspective crop meta btw

It's nearly impossible. Makes it unusable. This is the most I can select; I haven't a problem with only using a quarter of an image, but it's limited to this one only. The handles snap all the way to the top left.
