>/3DCG/ always prickishly scrutinizing some solo artist's topology as if they themselves create nothing but perfection from the get go
>never mentions that good production ready topology isn't possible on a specific model without a rigger testing it out and an animator stress testing the model until it crumbles
>finalized star character takes 6 months to go through this team-based back and forth quality control to completion
>learn that modeling with a team has its own distinct process that doesn't exist modeling solo and makes your work alot easier not to mention the specific setup plugins that come with your software
It's a good thing I managed to have lunch with people in the blockbuster part of the industry, including a 3d character artist supervisor.
Spergs here claiming to be industry mavericks just leave you with false impressions and never say anything substance that would give you insight into how the profession works.

Also zoomers will be easy to compete with because there are good number of them who really drop the ball and become unreachable during critical moments in the projects, which even millennials and X'ers will do.

These are the same type of people who change their phone number after making a dentist's appointment and then yell at everyone in the office because right after they changed their phone number the receptionist couldn't reach them.

This thread got a lot of replies quick. Due the the quantity and the similar nature of those replies, you can probably assume it's just one guy pretending to be multiple people. The important thing you need to remember about this board, /ic/, and other creative boards, is that some of the people who use these boards are legitimately crazy. I hate to be one of those "Everyone who thinks X is the same guy" types of people, but every time I get into an argument and call someone crazy, someone spams this board or /ic/ because they're mentally ill. Some of the anons on this board give genuinely good advice, but since you never really know who's talking, it's best to not listen to critiques on this website.

>never mentions that good production ready topology isn't possible on a specific model without a rigger testing it out and an animator stress testing the model until it crumbles
because that's done by you? Imagine not being able to rig and animate your own fucking model

Anonymous No. 897723

>>897715
That's not done by a modeler at a studio. Absolutely not. To say this when animation is a distinct career path and work is done under a complex and specialized division of labor is really dumb, especially if you think one jack of all trades person should be doing all instead of being divided between specialists. Even character modelers themselves aren't always responsible for knowing anatomy because there's separate team for that focus.

Anonymous No. 897741

>That's not done by a modeler at a studio
of course not but you can bet your ass that modeler CAN rig and animate a character.

>of course not but you can bet your ass that modeler CAN rig and animate a character.

Nope. If you look at production rigs they are very complicated, involve creating your tools and many include muscle rigs. Animating is an _entirely_ different discipline as well. So, you have a total of three different departments.

Anonymous No. 897768

But I am one man
I have no departments I have no team and there are no boundaries between the disciplines. If I wanted to be a cog, I would integrate myself into the big machine

AAA is purely about specialization, they hire the best of the people in their respective fields.

/3/ is filled with indie artists who seek to be a jack of all trades, but it takes longer for them to get better with each skill.

Yeah but people jerk themselves off over here being those cogs. What does an anon do to assert authority over a thread? Claim he works at an AAA studio. What does ngmi mean here? Being forever Blender hobbyist and not getting hired in the industry working on the main assets. What are these antagonistic douchebags not telling you? That they have a team of people fixing their shit. Even Pavlovich said he didn't need to know anatomy for a long time because even that was something that had it own division that coomed hard over being anatomy experts
>>897744
That and they're not using vanilla maya. I'm not talking about just some customization and plugins. They're either using proprietary composed of best features from different programs or they're using their own top secret proprietary software that you'll be learning to use until Christmas time rolls around.

Condense what you have to say down to a paragraph (4-5 sentences) or don't bother at all. It's inconsiderate to expect someone to read a novel out of the blue.

Anonymous No. 897937

>>897903
"not being a cog" is a complete cope. It's honestly childish too, you're always going to have an elite regardless of who is in charge. Those AAA artists aren't initially perfect, but they get paid to easily learn and improve from the best of the best in the industry. They're exposed to the latest techniques that make their work look great while being fast. They're 100x in a better position than hobbyists.

Heck, hobbyists are the ones learning from those "cogs" as well and if it weren't for industry people, hobbyist work would be garbage. Industry people are better than Hobbyists because higher standards are expected from them. They have to make and scrap quality work under strict deadlines.

Lmao imagine some Huawei assembly line drone coming in a /diy/ thread to flex his I N D U S T R Y "career". Okay that's not even funny, it's profoundly sad.
