I’m taking a digital animation class and a Maya introduction class for my fine arts credits in August.
I don’t want to be a complete noob, what can I do to look prepared and Chad like? I asked /ic/ and they told me to draw a box but I don’t feel like that’ll help

Does Maya have a cube when you start a new project? If so, start by deleting that.

Make porn and show it off to everyone at school. They will think it is really cool and cum in their pants.

i'm also going to art class and i think the best way is to get a profile with your best art ready. That way it looks like you had experience and may help with some things later on.

OP there is not much that can be said to you other than learn Maya and get acquainted with the fundamentals of animation.
Googling free Maya rig will give you hundreds of them and YouTube has many animators showing how they make their stuff so just do it?

In all honesty, just look like you know what you're doing. Have good file structure and organization, and have a good head on your shoulders.
I was in graphic design as a major, and while I didn't really know much more about the subject than anyone else, but I did make sure to practice outside of class, know my shit, and try to go above and beyond the projects presented.
A few others in the class picked up on that after a few projects and decided to sit near me to pick things up, and they sat next to me for the remainder of college and we became good friends, and they also became good artists. This part sounds way more like a brag than it should, but they used to credit me for why they did so well in class and how they found jobs later on.
Basically, nothing is more impressive than knowing (or looking like you know) your shit. Just don't come off as an arrogant douche. Be that person they'd ask for help before going to the professor.

What's even the long-term goal here with getting the most useless degree out the whole pile of useless degrees, not required for obtaining any license, in this broken country? Don't tell me this is how you're choosing to progress with 3D as a career.

Have you ever been to uni or do you lack reading comprehension? It’s a fine arts credit, my major is electrical engineering.

Then you clarify them as electives because for all anyone knows you could likely be the common case of fresh out of high school not knowing what your art focus should be, so you're "just taking classes" aimlessly. People come to this slow board with a interest in 3d not uni credits. But yeah everyone on this site already claims to be an electrical engineer so that would be a safe assumption until

/ic/'s draw a box comment was icing on the cake to this post-adolescent normie bimbo speak.

You're going to burnout at this rate, OP, just to learn a lesson you already know. Time to take a break.

Don't sweat over it.
It's supposed to be a intro class so your teacher is supposed to make Maya easy to understand.
At least a quarter of your classmates probably never even heard of Maya either.
