๐งต Review of crocotyle 3D
Anonymous at Fri, 3 Jun 2022 20:50:16 UTC No. 901283
Today I spend 25 usd on more gamedev tools.
And just bought crocotyle 3D, is pretty good for what it is, is basically the rpg maker tile map editor but in 3D.
And yes, crocotyle is much much better than sprityle, which I also bought.
And also is much much better than blender at being a 3D Tile map editor.
So yes, I'm very happy with it, and clearly see it as now part of my mandatory indiedev tools and clearly already part of my AAA next gen indie retro objectively superior indiedev workflow.
Yes, I'm rich enough to not need to pirate like a dirty povertyfag.

whut, sprytyle is free and it is easier to use. the gret addon streamlines it even further
https://github.com/greisane/gret
You have more control of your quads abd you can subdivide them without paying $25 to use more than 150 faces

I have paid for both (yes, I donated some money to sprityle itch.io page).
Sprityle is just way inferior, simpler and has less features.
Also it hasn't received major updates in more than a year.
It's basically a dead tool.

Try to make any sort of tile based 3D level on barebones blender.
Good luck trying that, the UV setup is just enough to realize is a bad idea.

state the tile based 3d level you'd like to make. it was straight forward and easy to import/export into other engines

Potential blender workflow: create a separate material for each different tile texture, then you can create a whitebox mockup, select any planes you want to set to a given texture, and just click apply with the right material selected.
That would have the advantage that you would have total freedom over the geometry, and you could create 3d tiles as well instead of just building geometry with 2d planes.

Why don't you show something I can't easily make in 5 minutes in blender?
