iirc the primary complaint about merc WIP was that it was the most generic, most lowest common denominator, most "was this made by a computer programed to take the average of all other art and generate an inoffensive picture?" image posted on /ic/

That's the jist. More specifically even though the the render is fine, it doesn't tell a story and the more you look at it the more nonsensical its individual elements come across.
