Should I get Zbrush Core? So far I've been sculpting in blender. I've learnt blocking out forms or making decent sculpts would my sculpts be better if I used Zbrush? ZbrushCore is 10$ a month, I could try it for a month.

What do you guys think? Should i make the switch? I'm a hobbyist making video games btw.

take the coremini pill. The truth is, if you can't hack it with coremini, you wont hack it with anything.

I already have blender for sculpting basic stuff. Is core worth it?

its orders of magnitude better

pirate full-fat instead. lack of dynamesh in core mini is a dealbreaker imo.

I'd say it depends on what kind of detail you are planning to make. If you want to sculpt complex models with very fine details i'd say Zbrush could be useful as it's a bit better at sculpting than blender, but blender is a lot better on anything else imo (i have very limited experience with zbrush and things might have changed a lot since i checked it out). I think the sculpting in blender is actually not much worse than zbrush, it actually has some benefits over zbrush. My favourite way of sculpting in blender is to use the Multiresolution Modifier, which is excellent for making game characters imo.
When using the Multiresolution Modifier you do need to have a good base mesh. First i model/sculpt a decent base model, then i retopologize it so it gets a nice topology optimized for the game i make it for, then i add the multires modifier and sculpt on that. I prefer to first subdiv once or twice, sculpt the main things i want on my characer, then jump to 5 or 6 subdivs and do the fine details. For the fine details i like to use different textures as stencils for the sculpt brush, this will make very nice details with full control.
The benefits of using the multires modifier are many:
1 it uses way less cpu than regular sculpting at same detail level.
2 it's way easier to sculpt on when the model already has a nice topology, the strokes just falls into place much easier.
3 it's non destructive, it doesn't fuck up your base mesh and you can go back one step if you're not happy with the result.
4 you can go back to the base mesh or any level of subdiv and bake the normals from the higher subdivs and get perfect normal and bump maps with no distortion making the base mesh look almost identical to the fine detailed sculpt.

I forgot to mention another benefit with multires mod and that is that it can also by a click of the a button reshape the base mesh to better match the sculpting you did.

multires is implemented absolutely horrifically in blender

That's because you by your own admission have limited experience in ZBrush so don't know how good it can be

Really depends on what kind of games you want to make and what kind of pipeline suits you the best. For example, if you are making an RPG or something, high poly sculpting with retopo, might be too much work, however if you are doing a horror game where you only need 2 characters, it might be fine. Constantly having to deal with Zbrush, for what amounts to nice looking normalmaps is more than I can be asked to do, and I don't really have any ambitions at working as a specialized sculptor in a studio. I do not need to get better looking models as much as I need to get better at making more game ready assets quicker, which I think is probably true for a lot of people who wants to do game projects.

It depends entirely on your style.

If you make simple things, stay with Blender.

If it gets stylized or more complex, Zbrush is a must.

exactly. That's why you should pirate it.
Before Z-Brush was sold off it was more than worth the money since you only had to pay once and got newer versions for free, but since they stopped doing that, they deserve to be pirated.

Your food stops existing the second you eat it, it's inherently temporary. Digital goods are only limited because of profit.
Are you paying a subscription fee to use your PC?
If you want to see if it's worth it, pay the $10, try it out- then pirate the full version
