Why do figures of anime characters tend to look great on the shelf, but look horrible in game engines in a realistic setting without cell-shading applied?

game engines are far from realistic. cell shaded games look pretty shit too even guilty gear

This... most "realistic" scenes have out of place lights to tastefully highlight and fix lighting

because anime is trash garbage for trash garbage people and placing the cancer in a realistic light just shows how fucking degenerate you are

Honestly you remind me of blender discord fags who always talk about making waifus but I have not seen anyone actually make a decent looking model in showcase. The discord itself is just a honeypot of beginners being groomed to think blender will be the industry standard one day but that day has already past year after year. The guy who owns the discord doesn't even produce professional tier work and is a pure blendlet.

So even UE5 isn't able to accomplish it with Lumen? That's disappointing, but thank you for the explanation.

Lumen doesn't handle SSS any differently than other realtime lighting engines

Guilty Gear Strive looks good
Although it would probably take way less time and effort to just draw it in 2D

Because anime face geometry in most models optimized for cell shading (games) or non-directed ambient light (figures). For real shading you need to round surfaces and eliminate sharp angles. It destroys the rest of anatomy so I suppose not every artist can ever think about so strange things. I tried to make face that looks cool in blender viewport. I made it. It has nothing common with human's face, it's alien cyborg. You won't face this in game.
And yes, it's OK to do different model styles for cartoonish and real shading settings. It's not OK to think that model created for one settings should be fine in another.

1. OK 2,3 weird lips because of shadows. You shouldn't use directed light sources for such relief face if you want animeish look.
