Is there an easy way to rig skirts/dresses/robes for games? specifically unreal?
Ive been trying for weeks and nothing i do really works.
Id prefer using as few new bones as possible. Ive been debating using just a front and back bone chain and weighting the sides to the legs. Would this work?
Rigging to just the leg bones you get awful stretching in the middle during run cycles.
I could rig the skirt with 8 new chains (cardinal directions) but this seems like an astronomical amount of new animation data.
built in cloth simulation looks like shit on more "toony" characters plus its only single poly plane which is ugly and still ends up with a ton of clipping.

I tried to rig a character wearing a schoolgirl outfit once
blender's auto weights were fucking terrible and there were tiny inconsistencies between the weights on the inside and outside of the skirt, so if you bent it too far the inside would clip through the outside and vice versa, it was a fucking nightmare. I don't know what the correct way to do it is
