Text to 3D is here and honestly it looks better than I expected on the first go.

I'm not OP, but it's pretty clear the entry level end 3D modelling as a job will be gone by the end of the decade - or at least, it will be radically different job essentially centered around knowing how to manipulate various AI models.
Look at how fast this shit is moving now. This was pure science fiction 5 years ago. It was potential future tech 3 years ago. Now it's here.
I recommend everyone start dabbling with AI immediately. You're going to be left behind if you don't get to grips with it soon.

Anon I'm sorry but ai is never gonna go past sketchfab prop monkey quality, it's going to be used for those shitty unity steam games at best, you said this about 2d ai years ago and 2d ai at it's best still hasn't replaced a single decent concept artist

>This isn't replacing jack shit.
It's literally getting better faster than humans are.
This shit will do to 3D jobs what quartz crystals did to watches. You'll have some oldfags who can still manually create shit, but 99% of people will either be using exclusively AI or heavily AI assisted tools. It's already happening with 2D art. You have people crying about AI-generated art winning competitions and shit, but unless the person actually fucking tells you they were using it there's basically no way to know. In 5 years the only top art creations will be AI generated (fully or partially), or they'll be shit that takes 50x longer by people who have been doing it for ages. Do you really think that any company would waste money on anti-AI developers?
>but muh AI detectors
Those are shit and break every time the weights are updated, not to mention they don't work on inpainting.

>muh AI fearporn
Don't care retards.
It's not like I've spent last 3 months mastering Stable and Waifu difussion, and now I can easily get a finished painting in 20 minutes, with no loss of control.
And yes, current AI tech still has limitations, but the most it improves, the better I get.
Eventually there will be a skill gap between ME, and unemployed human only noobs and too slow to produce elite chuds.
I will then simply outcompete both noob, humans and AI.
Sucks to be retard that can't handle change I guess.

complex 3d assets have so many details and stylistic influences that you would have to write a fucking essay to even express what you precisely want. AI will end up getting used for kitbashing ideas/parts from - in other words another tool for artists, not something to replace them.

nah it will look like shit forever. AI is only as good as its training data, and good luck on finding a 6 digit number of 3d mesh, materials and reference picture sets that have all been normalized. also the time of big jumps in processing power is clearly over and electricity cost is rising. it's quite possible that producing a perfect and highly complex mesh requires 1000x the effort/energy that producing an okayish 2d concept does, and suddenly its not feasible anymore.
so far the only thing that i have seen AI produce is generic 2d trash that i wouldn't pay for.

Soon:
Art directors generate a bunch of text to 3d models, find the ones they like, and then the poor 3d grunt workers get to perform retopo, UV unwrapping, and then fix up the materials in Substance.
Of course, it probably won't be too long before retopo and pretty good UV unwrapping are automated as well, and it's also likely that an automatic image->PBR material system will emerge.
The level of time and skill required to create an AAA quality model will drastically plummet, to the point that even Cris can do it.
So all in all, 3d guys should probably start saving their money for the hard times ahead.

I'm worried about coding too, the new GPTs can actually complete a lot of coding tasks automatically, and GPT-4 will likely be a massive improvement.
As usual you can say that the high-end coders or project architect guys won't be replaced any time soon, which I agree with.
But if the grunt workers start getting replaced, it's going to become a super competitive field, requiring great technical skills and high IQ.
No more basic bootcamp-level coding proficiency getting you an easy $100K

Good. This is how the tech industry was in the early days. Hyper-competitive and IQ based. That is what I was put here to do, compete for resources.
