🧵 Río The Musical
the chair nerd at Sat, 22 Oct 2022 18:28:33 UTC No. 922865
Ok so I've got a nice little weekend project that I think deserves a thread.
A friend is making a middle school musical based on Rio.2011.1080p.BluRay.H264.AAC-RARB
Because it's for a school it needs some animated and still backgrounds based on the film but because of copyright it can't show parts of the film.
As a pro bono I'm making some animated sequences using library objects and cutouts of the film that are "transformative in nature" that will be projected onto the background.
There are like 30 different backgrounds. 5 or 6 of them will be animated and the rest I'll use a combination of Photoshop and basic renderings.
>Why?
Because my mom thinks I'm nice.
>Why your renders are shit.
Because it's a pro-bono project. I ain't spending more that 2 hours per animation an/or still.
So yeah. Here is a moodboard that I made using stills from the movie. I'm not a fan of this movie but hell when you study any film and you get a glimpse on the work hours invested onto some shit you feel mad respect even if the plot is not that good.
I'll be posting some stuff.

sounds like fun, I'd have a field trip with a project like this especially with the amount of torrent assets i have

Yep. I don't have as much assets as I would like but shit can be done quite quickly. For example that surfboard was like 5 minutes. And that portable fridge was 1 min.Good thing is I don't need any kind of approval, what goes goes. I mean parents will be looking 95% of the time at their kids, not the cg background.
Here's another sequence. Car loop.

Ok so I have pretty much all the jungle and beach backgrounds done. I'll render the start sequence this night. It's a tricky one because it has to go from dawn to daylight and transition from a creep to a loop in the jungle.

interesting project anon, keep us posted

This is great, I wish we had more threads like this. People showing off projects, not needing them to be super production level or anything.
Are you looking for feedback, or are you just sharing for our entertainment? Either way, I'm enjoying all of this.

Thanks anon. Just sharing for fun. Any feedback is also welcome but my answer will probably be
> Hurr durr yeah you are right but its a pro bono proyect and no I will not improve this or that.

Cool, I was gonna say that for the driving loop, to make the transition in loops less jarring (since the background suddenly teleports backwards) the section you drive on could pass in front of a series of small beach shops that obscure the other side of the island at the start/end of the loop. That'll hide the fact that the mountain suddenly pops back in place without making it too obvious.
the chair nerd at Fri, 28 Oct 2022 04:18:36 UTC No. 923553

Yep you are right. That could be a great solition what I ended up rendering was a static background and no foreground tree. Good eye.

Rendered in corona render. The backgrounds are cutouts from the movie.
In >>923019 I used an animated corona sun system.
In >>923128 I used a simple hdri.
Here's the the monkey scene bkg.

Thanks. I've got some videos but they have the faces of kids so no no. I don't have anything else to post. Wires would be dumb.
If its worth something, now my friend wants to make a musical based on Inside Out for next year so see ya in a year I guess. The school was pleased with the backgrounds and they insisted on paying my "normal rate" I tried to say as kindly as I could that they coulnd't pay my "normal rate" so they gave me 100 bucks. Kek this was so cute, I spent it on a yearly AnyDesk licence and a Logi g600 two things I "need" to work remotely from my home and never had the guts to spend on.

and the endless hordes of pickpockets
guess this was a pretty fun thread and a bit surprising because i wouldn't really expect people posting renders of rio here, both the movie and the actual place (i live there)
also which software did you use there? im not very familiar with the UI, judging from the pics.

Yeah thx I am not carioca but I've been to Rio twice and it was a great time but only because I dont like the beach and it wasn't carnival time. I used 3ds max 2022 and corona render and photoshop. Pretty basic stuff.

Thx I have the official filming of the play. Once I get my time back from a huge project I'll post a compilation of the backgrounds in action.
My friend just confirmed to me that she'll be making a play based on inside out for next year. Hopefully I can help her with a little more time to do something more elaborate.

fantastic thread OP, really great to see someone not only finish a project but also put noticable effort into it.
also fuck you, I have been so busy with work and life that I haven't done anything creative in months and now I feel awful
keep up the good work, eat shit

Thanks anon I'll eat a truck load. Yeah I feel you. 95% of the time I spend on my computer is making social housing projects with shit architecture, shit clients and shit deadlines. That stuff kills your soul.
I made a sacrifice delaying work just to help my friend but It was worth it as a creative outlet.
I've already had a burnout early this year and the sequels of that are not over. There are some type of modeling tasks that literally make me feel sick.
This is how I use 4chan, It's just an excuse to model something dank like a pony in jar of cumin or post this kind of shit.
Take 5 minutes of modelling time every day for the most important person in the world: yourself. I guess that is the curse of cg, a hobby becoming a passion then becoming a task and then a problem.
My only long term goal apart of having kids is to have a job that doesn't involve computers. I dream of 3d becoming just a hobby for me.
Cheers.

What the heck I'm getting as sleepless night anyway. Just spent 20 minutes cutting the video of how the musical turned out.
Obviously censored the kids faces because you guys are a bunch of perverts.
Cheers,
