What does /3/ think of Cinema4D? Is there any reason to learn it in the current year over Blender, Maya or 3DS Max?
What are the main things it has going for it?

only if you want to get into the advertising space and aren't smart enough for houdini.

Cinema4D literally comes with After Effects.

It's my preferred for modelling.

I've lost my 3D virginity to Cinema in 2007. Contrary to a girl I've lost my actual virginity to (she was quite fat and ugly), I remember Cinema very fondly. No idea how it is now though.

I remember when people shat on C4D before Blender was even remotely considered. Back then it was the punching bag (apart from the crowd who uses it for motion graphics)

Worst snapping tool in the history of 3D softwares.
Literally unusable.

yes
it has cloth and pyro now, so amazing, no need to learn Houdini

For liquids, you will either have to use X-Particles or the outdated Realflow.
If you don't mind external workflow, then Houdini or Blender's flip fluid are great, then import back to C4D

Moreover, there are rumors about flip fluids/liquids in next release for C4D. If that happens, X-Particles is doomed lol

I do not recommend any Blender addon for simulation.
houdini is okay though.

B's flip fluids is okay for small scale stuff and not too demanding

not really, B. Flip fluids have no volume retention, its okay for large bodies of water. where you constantly need to spawn liquid

I’m having to learn C4D for work rn, coming from Maya and blender, simulations and animation tools are great
so far I hate materials and modelling in C4D, blender’s shader systems are hard to leave also there aren’t as many tutorials for C4D

Download AE and it also downloads C4D, although I'm not really sure you can use it by itself and can't try because I freed myself from adobe long ago.

anyone having problem going back to C4D after learning Houdini?
