Are there any polygon-based modelling programs that would work well for someone who finds parametric modelling intuitive?
I've used Autodesk a bit for uni and found it very easy to learn, but upon opening Blender I was entirely lost. No toolbar or useful information panel, and none of the options I can click seem to have any real effect on the model. Most I've managed to do is pull individual corners of the cube around.
Any other options with a more clear workflow for someone who's used to dimensioned 2d sketch -> extruded solid -> modifying surface features?

you embrace parametric modelling and become a hard surface god. If you need organics learn to sculpt.
