How can companies know if you pirated their modelling software?

the chair nerd No. 933337

>>933335

Every instance of autodesk software sure as hell uploads usage data, registry dumps, install folders and hardware signing to the cloud every time you open them. Autodesk knows exactly how, when and where they pirate their software, the only thing that saves you form being pursued as an individual is the necessity of a juditial process to claim, sue or denounce copyright infingment on the part of Autodesk. Trust me if legal case could be automatized autodesk would due anyone but because they need lawyers they only pursue 'big offenders'or low hanging fruit.

I'm legit on my licences but as everyone on this forum I have tried pirated copies, hell even autodesk knows that piracy instead of college deals provides for a bigger chunk of their pro user base.

I can't download a car yet but I would shure as hell in the fucking world would do it if I could.

Watermark embedded in vertex coordinates. If you sent your client the 3d file and they know what to look for it's over.

Followup the only way to make sure autodesk doesnt get unlicenced usage date would be if you use its software in an airtight system and even then I would'nt be surpised if the have pais hardware manufacturers like intel to use backdoors.
Not only black hat hackers use botnets, companies sure as fuck do use them

tell me about max for modelling. I started the free trial, but didnt have time to test it out, so it came and went. Now I'm using blender, but cannot follow arrimus' tuts because i have the wrong soft

the chair nerd No. 933341

>>933340
> i have the wrong soft

Not necessarily. Poly modelling is sure as hell more comfortable in 3ds max but blender as every capability to make complex topologies using subdivision. Take them as modelling techniques not as step by step suggestions.
Trust me, concepts like meshflow, polygon density, loops, creases apply across all poly modelling platforms.
Also Arrimus is cool but he is not gospel, there are millions of good nodelling exaplmes that are no necesairly arrimus, dude following gurus will take you nowhere aarimus wont make you good by defauld. I learned poly modelling back in 2005 by drawing polygons on a piece of paper to understand meshflow and then reproducing those techniques in 3d.

Dont go > look I am subscribed to arrimus, pwnisher and look at artstation I am looking at all the examples so I will become a pro. Dude there are academics and pros, knowing about stuff is not the same as knowing how to do stuff. Get your hands dirty and try to make something arrimus has done in max but in blender. Maybe in the end you'll know something that arrimus doesn't.

Followup. Semms that you are taking your fisrt steps in 3d. Don;t worry about 3ds max,or blender if you are just starting it 'll take years before you'll need the specific toolset of a specific program to leverage your modelling. Blender is an excellent choice for a noobie cuz it has a very wide set of tools form modelling to scuplting, animation and txtring that will cover all your needs for a good spectrum of works.
Do you need 3ds max because all your clients use revit interconnectiviy and also provide datasets exported from civil 3d? No? So you don't need to pay for 3ds max.

the chair nerd No. 933344

>>933343
And no I am not gatekeeping. 3ds max in my opinion is my favorite software and wish blender users would give it a chance but I understand not everyone is comfortable with piracy just to learn a software. Its stupid from autodesk to be so protective of their software. That is why autodesk forums is a hollow comunity and the only reason autodesk exists is because it's "the industry standard". I'm convinced that just as open office programs like blender will eventually make autodesk go kaput. It just takes a generational switch. I am part of the old school of cg creators and I feel jealous that noobs can start their 3d journey in something as cool as Blender. I love 3ds max but in the way al old carpenter prefers his old hammer instead of a new, more popular and modular one.

I hope im not considered a beg anymore. This is a car + engine interior I modelled from scratch without orthographic reference. I hope this pic isnt too cursed. I didnt have access to a good rendering solution. I just feel like max with its stack and quadmenus could be faster.

the chair nerd No. 933353

>>933348
That can be done in blender 100%

> I just feel like max with its stack and quadmenus could be faster.

Yes and no. A lot of car modelling employs a polygon based non parametric modelling workflow so a lot of manual clicking and vertice dragging is involved. Maybe if you always model something repatable like architecture yes but with cars every peice has its own modeling complexity/workflow.

Nice model by the way cool stuff reminds me of my days when 3d was only a hobby an i made cars like this one.

Rendered sprites: hahahahaha
exported model in 'x' format: better load and re-send from another third party software before dumping it on UNREAL or UNITY- heard blender can be useful for that.
If you´re going to the big cash (or START making some) consider paying for the most expensive package you can afford from them, especially if you live in first world countries were shit is actually real, else you can end up in jail and with a hefty fine to pay. You can keep the pirate version at your own peril, but their lawyers KNOW about you, friend. Oh, trust me, they know about you.

its called offline workstation and it works perfectly.
Alternatively you can run a virtual system and contain everything inside.

What If I used prerendered sprites for the models like pic related? Will I still get into trouble?

You need to make serious dough for Autodesk to sniff you out.
Pirated versions inside your machine leave a trail, even if it wasn´t used in the production - if you´re a united stater, europoor or onii-chan chances are you have a company and can be audited at any time, so if you have access to credit i´d pay to play sooner than later - they don´t go after poorfags who lay low on their mother basements however: if that´s your case, pirate away and relax, just don´t do something stupid like a tutorial on Youtube showing your 'student' version and your face and you should be fine.

you suggesting him to use houdini FEM reminds me of the time last week when I did some research on H19 vellum muscle workflows and found a total amount of documentation amounting to one halfhearted conference walkthrough by one indie studio who used it on a commercial with only a short amount of images of his nodes and even then they had to do tons of shot sculpting, an even less useful similar presentation this time in japanese, and an official documentation page on sidefx/h19/vellum/muscle saying that while the feature is present, it has lacking / no documentation

What’s the biggest benefit a blender user can gain from max? What does max have to offer that blender doesn’t? Serious question.

crazy support for arch viz in my experience. shit is seamless between cad and revit. also iirc the internals of max work in tri's at a core level which makes it amazing for game dev.

Something tells me that this doesn´t work - else big shoots would have gone bankrupcy thanks to piracy. I think - and i might be wrong, someone correct me - that the POLICE takes care of busting down 'your property' front door when you try to act tough.

Can they legally tie the pirated copies to you tho? Isn't that too intrusive? "We will check and intrude into everyone's pc to catch a few"

they come to your work place and check if you have legit copy or or not (at least that what they do where i work)
they most probably know you have a cracked copy at home but well

Your home PC: they can´t do zilch
Company studio/office/headquarters: they can audit, invade, arrest, sue, etc.
The fines in my countries goes to 2000 copies plus a hefty whatever fine, so yeah, crooks that made a lot of money with their software IN A COMPANY will pay them until there´s no company anymore.
