๐Ÿงต Do you guys have fun?

Anonymous No. 935527

I've been 3d modelling on and off for like 3-4 years. At some point I stopped liking it so much, and it's been kinda downhill from then. I just can't really subject myself to open 3ds and do smth.
You guys have/had this issue? and how to fix

I am having fun but my yearly software rental costs are fucking astronomical

>software rental costs
I just steal the best stuff, I only pay other artists for their works - if its from a big company, especially with subscription and no perma licenses - I just take it.

I don't have fun because I actually improve and put effort into things unlike most of the ngmis on this board. Western society wasn't built on having fun, but on human achievement and a desire to advance past mediocrity. People who focus on fun will impress no one and be forgotten.

It's fun overall but ever since it's started being my job it's gotten less fun. It's like any hobbies, once you add money, time, stress and responsibilites it (sometime) stop being enjoyable

And no, I use industry standard software unlike the other ngmis here

get a normal job and then do art as a hobby.

trying to monetize your hobbies is the most stupid way to burn out.

yeah that's what I tried, I wanna go back to doing it as a hobby/fun thing, but it's not really working.

I had fun because I improved put effort and let my heart lead from time to time. Great people aren't built on working in a miserable path, crabbing on 4chan, but on accepting that the dope hit will be stronger and more genuine if you enjoy what you're doing and take the time to refine your work and yourself. People who focus on gmi without being aware of where they wanna make it will be miserable regardless of financial status

Fun?
I don't think I've ever had "fun", but that's not to say I don't enjoy working on things. Fun isn't really the word to describe it.
It's been years, both working freelance and on personal stuff, and I largely get the same fulfillment from 3d as I have when I started. It's shifted from completing a project to just working on them. I largely don't really care about a project once I'm finished.
That being said, sometimes like anything, it does get old or you kinda get fed up with it when things aren't going your way. At the end of the day though, I just like making things, and this scratches that itch pretty well. Making money from it is just a bonus on top. Though I do wish I'd be able to make more, or do some actually fun commissions. Music videos are pretty close to what I'd describe as fun. Lots of room for abstraction and experimentation. Though I don't get many offers to do them, unfortunately.

I've been doing it about as long as you and I am still learning while producing personal work and work for clients.
I enjoy every step of the process from sketches/blocking to compositing the final video animations. Even UV editing; it's just a puzzle that's satisfying to organize.
I love the main stuff like modeling, texturing, and rigging/animation.
There's always more techniques and software to learn, which is what I would recommend doing if you feel stuck. Experiment with new stuff. Deliberately try to create things you don't know how to create yet.
I get excited by learning new things and unlocking new abilities that way. In almost every project I do, I try to incorporate some new methods or tools to test them out and improve overall.
And do lots of figure/life drawing because that's one of the most important things you can do to improve as a visual artist in general, especially if you're ever doing any character work.

Why do you think you can't have fun at the same time you're putting an effort and improving? Or we have different views on what fun is.

Find motivation and inspiration by looking up other high quality artist's work, or watching animated films and really paying attention to the details.

Also seek out a community that you can regularly share artwork with and get critique, like Discord channels.

This happened to me. You need to share your work, even if it sucks total ass just show it to people. And when you get the one, woah thats actually pretty good, you can coast on that for months.
