man, It has that look of that crazy girl on school that was like super hot and always wanted to ride your autistic dick because you were the smarter guy on the class, but you were likely a dumb 15 year old nerd, so you missed that shit.

Man, this is hot as fuck.

I don't know what that is, but I hate it. First, there's no negative space in that animation, so it looks monotone and boring despite moving too much. Second, they're trying too hard to make her look alive, but missing on the basic things such as blinking; during that sequence she would've blinked about 3 times to accent extremes if this were IRL. Third the direction sucks. Rotate them about 65 degrees so they're both with their backs mostly against the wall. And if you really want to take it to master level, then don't do any of that at all, and instead show the character that's reacting, like good animation should. I would give it a 6/10; this is barely above what students with no experience deliver for a semester project.

the expressions are too exaggerated and expressive and shift too quickly. there's like 30 different facial expressions in an 8 second clip.

this is the disney style exaggeration flanderized and then taught as a class and then flanderized again by the students. its a 20 year process that has gotten us to this point in animation where everything disney or simulating that style is winding up this overdone

...I think it's alright. Getting past the zoomer aesthetic anyway.
I kinda miss the over exaggerated and fluid keyframed look games and movies used to have. It's a cartoon, no shit it moves in big and overcooked motions.
I prefer it over motion capture anyway.
Would I watch the OP? Fuck no. Do I wish more movies/games were hand animated? Absolutely.

>WAH WAH WAH this animation is too expressive. I'm too autistic to pick up on facial cues irl, so when it's played up to make it obviously clear what an animated character is thinking and feeling, my autistic brain short-circuits and I get uncomfortable.
You guys are right we should only animate unexpressive dull sacks of shit like you guys.

All you'd have to do is grab the edges of the eyelids where it should go and extrude out, and you're 80% of the way there. They don't even look textured, just a solid black material.

The problem is not that the animation is exaggerated. The problem is that the animation is not at all based on real life. It is an animation based on other animations to the point that there is nothing human about it.
At least I think that's what

you're dead wrong. There is no problem and it has tons of appeal, especially to the target female audience. Learn 2 read the room.

Anonymous No. 942308

>>942283
To me, I think that even if you're basing an animation on real life physics and phenomena, there should always be some degree of exaggeration in everything you animate on screen.
It's good to think of animation as less about mimesis of real life, but more of a theatrical representation of real life. How would an actor on stage perform an action to get something across to an audience kind of thing. Deliberate, easy to read motions that are exaggerated to read from up close and far away in the nosebleed seats.
That's the biggest takeaway when animating I think, and I try to follow that principle any time I'm doing it.

Even with things that aren't people, like machines, it's good to push things a bit to really nail home that action so that people are aware that it happened and can logically extrapolate what happens next (so you can reward or subvert that expectation). Of course, small things that aren't immediately noticed consciously have their place too, since they add to things overall, but the name of the game is theatrics. In both "real life" animation, and cartoonish animation.
I think that's why a lot of motion capture feels so dead, is because they miss that theatrical element to it and act out motions too naturally, instead of something like a stage actor would do. I'm not saying they need to go full-on Charlie Chaplin, but just dial their movements up by like 15%.
