you're insane, anything that is not supported is not compiled for that version of maya, it says it right in the support forums. Kill yourself.

XPU is still too limited and "early access" to be used in any kind of complex scene. No warnings if your GPU does not meet the requirements (it just crashes your DCC), not all lights, materials and even the new denoiser aren't compatible yet. Otherwise, it is bloody fast. I want them to improve their XPU so that we have a new free GPU based render to use in production (besides Blender Octane and >Cycles).
I haven't tried the new denoiser too much and the stylized looks are for paying users.

But the only way you would get it for free is if you have the NC version which is for non commercial use only

You can just... lie
Like, you need to put the watermark yourself lmao
Even arnold in maya have watermarks if you don't pay and use batch render

Oh look at the blender kiddie bringing out the big guns. When you automatically lose the 3d wars, you bring this statement when all other options are exhausted.

How decent is it compared to its alternatives?

Read the documentation and the other posts. It still not finished. You should use Redshift or Octane for production instead.

tons of people use CPU for production, especially with the new denoiser offering 300% speedup
