๐งต What's the workflow for texturing low-poly details?

New to 3D texturing. When I google how to texture low poly models, I see people just slap on a material and let the engine do the work. They don't draw any textures in any of the fucking videos. So I have no way of knowing what the workflow is to produce ps2-like graphics.
I am trying to texture stuff like pic related.
Am I supposed to just draw directly in blender on the model? Or do you have to do something else when texturing skin & face.

You unwrap and then you draw.
Fuck around and find out.

this should help once you figure it out. I use CSP which is cheaper than Photoshop and it still uses psd files.

There's a couple of options
The first is what you've brought up already, which is just painting onto the model directly
The second is sculpting etc. the details into the model, baking that in, then using a workflow like >>948087 in order to get your end result, baking in the lighting and such in the end
