Topology is too "specific" to that shape and dependant on subdivision, if you don't subdivide it looks like shit and changing the shape is hard because topology is not consistent, a regular basemesh works better, or, unironically, daz, only because its more flexible and whatever shape you make the rig can automatically adjust to it.

It's really basic stuff that somehow blows normie minds. Especially the normal mapped bone-linked face wrinkles
It's fine for what it is, but there are probably better base meshes out there that are more intuitive. This one is also very dependent on Blender features so it's not very versatile.

I feel like rigging and topology should be a solved problem that everyone can just copy
