>Details on ProPlay in NBA 2K24
>Mike Wang indicated that ProPlay is “something that I’ve been dreaming about” since he got in the gaming industry. This is a new-gen feature that directly transfers footage from real NBA games into animations for 2K24, and Wang told reporters that its effect in shots and other areas will be felt across the gameplay.

>With ProPlay, animations can now be sourced from real NBA games. This means that the developers can now fine tune the gameplay without having to get players into the studio for motion capture.

>“The shots, motion—anytime the player is moving off-ball around the court—dribbling, rebounds, blocks, passes, and free throws feel different in NBA 2K24 New Gen because they’ve been captured in real-time scenarios.”

This is bleeding edge 3d tech, but, how is this even possible? AI?

It's just a lot of buzzword bullshit for pose2pose AI.
Guarantee without cleanup work it's going to look like ass. Then again, the people who buy/play these NBA games don't have very high standards to begin with.
I could see it being neat if it's done well, but on the same token, I don't really see the point.
The shit that's happening in the real games are reactive to what's happening right there around them, the video game won't be able to replicate the same exact scenario for the footage to make sense because of the simple fact that it's a video game. You have control over it and no 2 games will play out the exact same way, let alone be a perfect recreation of an existing IRL game.
I'm probably reading into it too much and it's really just sourcing animations for simple shit like throwing a hoop without any context, but still. I just don't see the point. Mocap does the same job, and no one is going to be "woah, I remember this exact point in time where x player threw the ball this way in x game!"

Mocap doesnt do the same job as that is not in a real live game scenario. This is the present and future of animation. How do i replicate this for ripping anims from arbitrary video?

Wait to see real gameplay. This is a trailer. The animations have looked this good in the trailers for years now.

It already has been.

Hey. I buy it once every 5 years or so, just to play with friends. They do make improvements over time.

The people who buy every year and play online are filth though.
