Geometry nodes are pretty powerful and Eevee is cool for realtime pre-viz.

If I watch old tuts there are often functions in other directories so that might be a nuisance.

Anonymous No. 955497

>>955320
You know I've been thinking about this too (I use 2.91), and I really can't be arsed with all that geometry node stuff, literally don't care.
Now if they improve rigging, animation and texturing on the other hand, THEN they would have my attention and I might update

i would use 2.79 if theres multi mesh UV unwrap like >2.8 and above.
Also some hotkeys are missing in 2.79 too.

Try the dgVoodoo option in the new win10fix settings.
Alternative: Update your AAU and see if it happens again. If so, disable win10fix, enable wined3d and software vertex processing.

yes, very much. No tutorials, no geometry node ffs, i wanted that, even the basic version of geometry nodes would have worked for me. Also, very less add-ons. Seemingly none for vegetation. I too use 2.79 since performance issues

Damn what brush settings did you use? Those are some nice textures, I tried making textures of my own but the result is utter dogshit, I get this effect where brush strokes are visibly overlapping onto one another instead of blending seamlessly together. How did you do it anon-kun?

Anonymous No. 958293

>>958292
I've spent a lot of time doing those, to be honest. For shades and highlights I usually use about 0.3 value and several strokes, then fix the color transition with about 0.15 value with intermediate colors, then blend it all together, depending on how hard the transition is supposed to be based on the shape. I did the normals before texturing. I mostly paint in the 3d window, so the brush size is depended on my mood. The spots and color change are all blended in as well as I could.

>>955320
2.79 is perfectly usable. 99% of the stuff I do now, I could have done in that version. But newer Blender versions have a lot of improvements and features and you'll get use out of at least a few. Eevee being better than Blender Render and Cycles being way faster are the big ones for me.
I'd recommend upgrading, but if you're really set in your ways, you aren't screwing yourself.

I see, thanks for responding bro, 'preciate it

Anonymous No. 958327

>>958286
That looks like garbage though. You're missing out on a lot of updated features. That noise in shading and lighting is not good.

Anonymous No. 958328

>>955497
But they have improved all of that. You just refuse to actually embrace the updates.

Anonymous No. 958348

>>958327
>That looks like garbage though
Not that anon but you've got shit taste son, sorry to break it to you

Anonymous No. 958364

>>958348
I'm not talking about the model. I'm talking about the lighting that causes all that noise from the shadows.

Anonymous No. 958381

I'd say quite a bit, having a real-time viewport with Eevee is great (and actually leverages the GPU unlike Blender Internal), and Cycles keeps getting small performance boosts with each update.

However, there are some niche add-ons I use that aren't compatible with 2.8+ that never got updated, so I keep a portable copy of 2.79 handy just in case. Otherwise I tend to go with the latest stable releases.

The UI will be a learning curve, but you'll get used to it before too long. Honestly the only reasons to really use 2.79 at this point are for old add-ons, trying to make intentionally old school looking renders with Blender Internal, or if your PC is an obsolete shitbox or Raspberry Pi
