Are they of any use besides sdandard mouse and ekybard?
The only producer I've found is 3DConnection. Anything else on the market?

No.

They pretty much have a monopoly. Not sure if it's because of patents or because of a niche market.

Spacemouse is pretty much the industry standard for that. I've used the wireless version of their cheapest product, it takes some getting used to but it is superior to the traditional catia pan/tilt/zoom commands. Not sure what the ootb compatibility is with any other cad environments. Some try hard intern who's worked at my place for like 2 months bought the enterprise version even though I'm pretty sure he can't install the software for the customizable screen or buttons because itar, he looks like a fucking tool

I use one daily, I actually find it difficult to do cad without one now. They do have a huge learning curve though which can be a pain

You don't need it for CAD. Plasticity doesn't support it and it does just fine.

i have the small one and it is fucking life changing
the only thing i don't like is the bottom isn't grippy enough to not slide across my glass desk. IDK why ALL software doesn't support it, but most do.

These aren't standard HID devices, software needs to support them directly. And blender on linux does.
