Redpill me on using base meshes

Anonymous No. 959032

Don't use a basemesh.

Do learn anatomy.

Daz is popular for a reason. Literally using 3d figure models for 2d artists.

I can block out a character base mesh faster than you can lay zSpheres and the mesh will have the foundation of good tolopogy inherently. I could box a model a character to completion to my "base mesh" can be as loose or detailed as i want before o decode to sculpt.

Make your own basemesh, you gain experience in modeling and also you have a custom mesh for quick production

Shortcut to get quick results that belie your own capabilities. Provides ease of production at the cost of reduced XP.
locks you into a dependence on the quality of the basemesh provided instead of iterating towards what one day becomes your unique style and taste.

I made a handful of base mesh's of a handful of body types. I've never used any of them once.
I always default to starting from a sphere apart from the hands and feet for some reason.

>HELP! I have a Nvidia card and my game crashes on startup!
Try the dgVoodoo option in the new win10fix settings.
Alternative: Update your AAU and see if it happens again. If so, disable win10fix, enable wined3d and software vertex processing.

this, and always backup you base meshes

Make a basemesh and then re-use it over and over. Remake it every few months.
If your goal is to make a good character design, you only waste time by recreating the exact same body parts over and over again every time instead of focusing on the design.

Modelling, topology, UVs, Rigging, etc are things that help you accomplish your goal of design.

No one gives a fuck if you have unique UVs.
No one gives a fuck if you made every model from start to finish.
What they care about is the end result.

Does it look good? Does the thing you have in your head match the thing you have on screen?

Midwits will tell you that you need to remake every single piece from scratch if you want to retain your personal style. This is misguided.
Your style will show up regardless, even if you don't want it to. A base mesh won't change that, it'll just make your life easier.

>tl;dr - use a base mesh, you're trying to impress your audience, not other artists

using a basemesh is cringe

Anonymous No. 960474

Only use a base mesh if you already know anatomy and how to sculpt. It will not speed up your workflow or give you better results if you can't sculpt, and will slow down your progress.
If you know those things, you can use a base mesh.

Good advice

that is not a base mesh... its a block mesh.
using block meshes its a short cut you still need to merge everything and sculpt the lost volume, so learn anatomy and it will help.
also learn to make this from scratch it will help you with stylized models.

What do you do with that anatomy?
It'd be useful if you could make a mesh that was like simple and something to go off of when making the final model. A foundation of some sort hmmmmmm
