Film grain is pleasing, CGI grain is rarely pleasing (but sometimes it is).

Noise in path traced images isn't uniform and shows up primarily in high contrast areas where it's most noticeable.
Since our perception is relative you can improve the look of images by adding noise later.
Finally film grain isn't just noise.
