Hi guys. I finished making my first donut in blender.
After this I'm planning on making some other simple foods.

like you OP I just started blender, but I looked up this and just yikes, not a single one looks appetizing, are there any professionals here that can prove my assumptions wrong? is it blender? is it the teaching sources that this is the BEST "realism" we can make with blender?

It's not blender, software are mostly the same when it comes to image output.

The blender donut is just a shit model but it's purpose is to teach the basics (I assume. I've practically never used blender)

Considering I'm an advanced user of 3 and a half render engines, I can't imagine that cycles would produce a largely different result compared to others due to the render engine itself rather than the user not wrangling the engine properly, not prepping the asset for the engine properly, or using a shitty asset to begin with.
It's the same old, shoot light, bounce of object, hit camera, framework, and what makes this all worse is that the objects in question in this thread are basic diffuse spec objects.
Render comparison images and videos are memes made by people who need to kill themselves.
People don't do deep dives into shading and rendering and that's why I said what I said. Could still be wrong at the end of the day however..
