You're meant to adjust and change the UI to fit your personal needs. The zbrush devs even mention this.

No OP is right. Z-brush broke every existing convention in graphics software that preceded it and had no excuse to do so as more functionally sound solutions pre-existed.
You can love Z-brush how ever much you want and be Pixologic-4-lyfe fanboi but there exist no excuse for the UI they created.
I had the same reaction as Op 1999 when it first arrived and I still feel that way about it now 25 years later.
I've heard the same sentiment echoed by the vast majority of people who ever touch it.
Great software, beyond trash UI.

No that's why I customized it. As everyone should. You'd think you're losing time but that's the thing that made me stick with it.

Yes. They don't have to be meshes, there's things like zspheres. Just like how meshes are just objects in blender.
