🧵 How do I start building my skills

Anonymous No. 985187

I want to get to a point where I can start doing human or animal characters for game and mods. How should I go about building up to this? I’m starting with texture painting right now, is this the right move?

You're too late to the party. 3D was big in the mid 2010s, but now it's coming to an end.

I have beeen. I’ve been doing if for a few years, but I always hit a wall. Im not consisten, and when I try doing something like this I struggle to learn it. So many YT tutorials feel like they don’t help. Especially with sculpting people

I want to ask something and I won't create a new thread for that.
What is the way to learn 3D? There seems to be no definitive path and everything boils down to scattered tutorials, just like drawing.
From what I saw there is different knowledge in the broad field of 3D: Modeling, Sculpting, Rendering, Animation, etc.
I think the first thing I should learn well is modeling, but the problem is that I don't know what I don't know.
Are there any structured resources I can use to learn how to model well?
I already know how to add a torus and deform it...

There is no secret trick, getting better can only be done with each new iteration you do on a particular subject. You only get better by doing new models, sculpts, textures etc. If you're doing any of those things you're already improving. This process will take time, it's inevitable, but you know what they say: the first best time to plant a tree was 10 years ago, the second best is today.

One more thing, it helps to have a sense of direction, or in other words, WHY are you doing 3D? Porn 3D artists get memed on often but the reason why they have the skill that they do (the good ones anyway) is that they have a driving force pushing them to create new stuff and therefore improve, whether that driving force is an erection or anything else it doesn't matter, the most important thing is you have a motivator
