try merge by distance
and you can't subdivide triangles, you have to model with quads only

Well there’s your problem it’s blender’s fault. Look every single time someone tries to get an explanation here, it’s always resolved by blaming the blender developers. They cause a unfixed issue and they don’t care.

Are all the faces correctly oriented, no flipped normals?

flipped and custom normals
if its blender go
data> geometry data >clear custom normal data
and then go
data > normals >auto smooth ON > 180
addidionaly select all faces with A, press F2, and type in "recalculate outside"
First one is to remove any mess you made, second just flips normals to outside view, you can check using this button to see where you fucked up
also seleft all edges and ctrl+e and then clear sharp if you added somewhere sharp edges

This is taking quite a bit longer than I anticipated. At least the stock/forearm should be easier than this bit.
Anyways, since I might as well ask in advance, what's the best way to do checkering for the grip?

Also, what's the best way to get engravings on my normal map and texture?
