Is there a piece of 3d modeling software that's good for use on laptops that are too weak to run blender? I don't expect to do anything fancy like uv wrapping or sculpting, but being able to have the equivalent of the object/edit mode would be great to have on the road. I'd like to be able to run a light program to rough out stuff to refine later on at home. Is there something like that?

t. currently trying to use blender while waiting for a couple hours now and it crashes every other edit because this laptop is a decade old

This, use Wings 3D. I had the same problem as you so I ended up going with it since I have a decade old laptop too. Even though it's quite basic (no rigging), it's surprisingly powerful once you get the hang of it.

Consider mobile apps for 3D and sculpting. Or is your phone decade old too...

Try an old version of blender, I've made it work on a potatoe
Anim8or and metasequoia are good too

Your best bet is an old blender version anon, I still have a 20yo laptop with blender and works perfect.

Any reason to use v2.76 instead of v2.79b? (the final version compatible with older Windows)

Bruh.. We did UV un-wrapping in the very early 2000s on shitboxes. What current day device is so weak it can't do things like that? My ~12 year old phone would've done that in a stride as it's far more powerful than the computers I learnt CGI on in my teens.

Older Blender can run on linux as well
Just pick a version that came out around the time when your laptop came out, and download one of the linux releases.
