Hi. I'm considering plans for learning how to draw. Which do you think would be best:
1) Imitating speed draws and getting good from purely experience
2) Reading books on fundamentals, then using image references to draw. I have a free year to practice so I'd have the time to do just about anything you can think of

Decide on the style of illustration you are aiming for. (Multiple possible)
Painting, line drawing, deformation, color choice, etc...Pick up the areas you want to improve and practice.
Ask others to evaluate your drawings and correct any flaws.
If you have some drawing skills using these, you should be able to quickly reach your goal.

pretty much both.
Study the artistic process of people, check books and refs if there's a thing that confuses you, feel free to ask other people for feedback, not everyone's a crab.
