it's stupid twitter jargon that i'm frustrated i use
originates from smash bros speculation memes โ "who will be next? JRPG McSword Guy or Scrimblo Bimblo the lovable skrunklo?"
the state of being a scrimblo is a spectrum, with characters being more or less of a scrimblo depending on how many of these traits they have:
>mascot character from a video game
>originates in the 90s or early 2000s
>chibi-ish proportions
>has been widely forgotten over time
>originates from a platformer
and more, though these are the big ones.
plok is the perfect example, as he embodies all of these traits. bubsy is another good example.
in the middle of the spectrum we have characters like mario and sonic, who don't have the obscurity factor as much but still fit the bill.
on the lesser end, we have characters like professor layton, who aren't weird little guys but still seem to fit in when put next to scrimblos
i hope this helps you understand why it's so funny / fun to see characters like these "going hard," as they're usually designed to be the exact opposite but often times have a capacity for looking menacing and cool โ think about all the times mario looks cool as fuck
so yeah,

there's no rules about scrimblos -- it's less of a concrete thing and more of a feeling.
