latest rumour about the white fibrous clots is that they are living "alien roots" which grow by consuming the corpse of the victim
seems farfetched to me, but this should be easily proven/disproven
can we bring this rumour to the attention of someone with the means to test this?

Just have them live feed it being taken from a cadaver and putting it in soil with a plant. That or contact a local grave robber.
