Why do plebs think imaginary numbers can include infinity?

the name "imaginary" for the imaginary numbers comes from descartes(the "i think therefore i am" guy), that named them so because he did not like them, and we are still suffering the consequences of his retardation to this day, the people that call infinity imaginary are called finitist, and they think that infinity is as real as an anime nerd's 5000 year old loli dragon vampire witch girlfriend-wife
these two vids are good for you to now more about imaginary numbers if you so desire

and on the topic of infinity, i personally think that finitist are wrong

>Infinity is a number
There are ordinals and cardinals which could be described as infinite, but infinity itself is a value, not a number.

Correct. But if we all agree it's a number then it becomes a number. Just like + is just 2 lines, but if we all agree it means add two numbers together then that's what it means

The use of the singular in reference to infinity means the person I was responding to was treating it as a distinct concept from those.

By that logic ۩ is a number. You're equating number and symbol.

But if we all agree that infinity is the biggest number for example then that's what it is. Just like how we all agree 1 is the first number

Zero's the first number though. Unless we're talking about chronology, in which case 12 is the first number.

I'm not sure you're picking up what I'm putting down. For example, if you have one apple, we as humans have agreed that the number1 is how many apples there are. But if we all agreed we should use 2 then we would use 2 to represent one apple. Like this example, and like with two lines is a +, we can just say infinity is a number. If someone asks what number it is, we say it's infinity. If someone asks where it is on the number line we say it's as far as you can go. We as humans define these things. So if we all agree that infinity is a number then it shall be so. It doesn't matter if it's illogical, math is our language and we can do whatever we want with it

> If someone asks what number it is, we say it's infinity. If someone asks where it is on the number line we say it's as far as you can go.
That's how we define the word "infinity". The word "infinity" refers to the ideas you just described. The concept of infinity exists regardless of if we are there to give it a name.

Yeah that's wrong and the reason we need a ban on the use of the word "infinity".

>It doesn't matter if it's illogical, math is our language and we can do whatever we want with it
Not only is this not true, it would require a metaphysics you are certainly not equipped to defend

Dipshit, fucking, cuck.
Quit using "plebs," you cancerous fucking faggot.
It does not make you aristocratic in the slightest.
It just reveals you as an arrogant, ignorant fucking douche that is hyper-reliant on what's essentially mainstream fucking Chan-culture.
Yeah, you're basically the Backstreet Boy of 4chan, retard.
Be more inventive with your pathetic fucking intellect.
But anyway, let's get to the crux of your shitty fucking question.
I'll pose a series of rhetoricals, because I already fucking know the answer, and it's solely intended to confuse your bitch ass into an eternal state of reliance on my ferocious fucking cock.
Why the fuck can't they?
Why do you retain the asinine belief that infinity isn't an imaginary sequence of self-contained numbers?
Does it truly have a limit, or does it actually cycle back into the point of origin?
Your move, faggot.
This should be fun to watch you spiral out of control.
And I swear to God, if you miserable fucking cucks pipe up I will bite your fucking head off.

Doesn't matter and you're missing the point. Lets just say it's a number. Then consensus will be that it's a number. Doesn't matter if we can't use it as a number or if it breaks things or if it's just a symbol, we'll just put it in with the numbers. Then we can put this to rest
