what chemical is best for preserving food and other organics, edibility is not the goal
my first thought was formaldehyde, but it would most likely evaporate, give me cancer, and destroy the local environment
are there any others that will preserve a food in the open for a few years, without causing a chemical incident

nitrites or celery extract

waterglass for hard stuff like eggs
zinc or copper powder to kill mold
