What’s the deal with ivermectin? I’ve seen it popping up recently and I have no idea what it is nor what it does

All I know about it is that it's the primary ingredient in some kind of "horse paste" that republicans started eating for some insane reason

And that reason would be?

It's a drug used to treat parasite infections it both humans and animals. It has some anti-viral properties as well. In the United States some Republican politicians have for political reasons played it up as a COVID-19 cureall, and some Democrats and liberals have reacted to this by calling it "horse dewormer" (because horse medicine is scary) and saying that Republicans who take it for themselves are idiots who will get sick and die. If you're going to take it for yourself please be careful with the dosage and read all the side effects. I am not a trained medical professional.

Ivermectin is a treatment for Morgellons' disease (Ivermectin is a "dewormer"), which is what they called most types of COVID when it was less popular.

Ivermectin was made in 1985 and used in veterinary care first before it's proven effectiveness and safety made it a regular and popular anti-parasite medicine in hospitals everywhere

Is a medicine hated by demons because it saved conservatives from early death.

It's an anti-parisitic and antiviral medication listed on the WHO's list of essential medicines for humans. It's virtually harmless, and has been administered in humans over four billion times. The man who discovered Ivermectin won a Nobel Prize in 2015 for its discovery. It likely has a prophylactic and antiviral effect on Covid infection, but because it is a cheap, generic drug, was suppressed, like hydroxycloroquine, during the Covid pandemic, in favor of other novel drugs, like remdesivir, which was originally developed to treat Ebola, but failed trials because it was deemed to unsafe even in Ebola patients.
