If you can't understand math, then what you like is not physics, but rather fantasy narratives with scientific-sounding vocabulary.

I can understand math just fine. I understand the equations and can explain them to other people, but it's the solving part I can't do.

what's stopping you (what about you is stupid)? do you have trouble focusing? why?
what factors (that you can sort of control) are contributing to the problem? do you have any addictions or physical ailments? is there some kind of goomba in your vents which screams every 20 minutes and gives you chronic stress?
break these things down until you have a proper, MILITARY understanding of them as obstacles, then shave away each one. if you do that, the DOs should come easy.
you should feel like you're in control of your environment if you want to do something this monumental.

stability is what makes things sustainable & efficient enough to the point where you can learn faster than an average person. most "exceptional" people can be explained by their environment, though there are REAL exceptions.

I suck at keeping track of the steps of long equations. I was able to cope through high school and college, as after many sleepless nights I was able to drill certain processes into my brain. But when it comes to the really advanced shit I buckle under the sheer amount of things I have to memorize.

well there's anki for brute force memorization
i sometimes actually learn faster when sleep deprived, but it doesn't seem to stick for as long, all else being equal. has this been your experience?
have you tried memorizing as you go? like, have a bunch of reference shit open while trying to do something specific (going through a book, doing a project, etc), jumping to the stuff you can't remember as it comes up? that usually works best for me, it's painstaking but it feels completely natural after long enough, as long as i don't run out of things to do.
try putting the task first, let the memorization follow.

Are you sure you're bad at math or are you just expecting to be good at it without any practice? Nobody is good at math without first reading about how it works and then practicing

maybe you're too young,
when i was in my teens early 20s i couldn't focus on anything, probably had adhd
now that im in my mid 30 everything seem easy, i recently looked at some math from high school that used to be hard to understand and it seem so simple now
