I dont understand memory. How does "blacking out" work? How is it I had a completely cognitive day aware of everything and then this morning I only vaguely remember the day hungover? Even stuff like alzheimers I don't understand why don't people just blink and they are 80 years old in a nursing home with no memory?

Poor (long or short) memory recall. How exactly it works is not known, connections to memories may not function properly or the memories themselves might not be getting saved.
