As a doctor, I've had it up to here with clueless, entitled fuckwits like you who think medical research is as simple as pulling a cure out of our asses. Do you have any idea how complex the common cold is, you absolute dunce? It's caused by over 200 different viruses, each with their own unique characteristics and mutations. We're not just sitting around with our thumbs up our asses, you ungrateful prick. Scientists and doctors worldwide have been busting their balls for decades trying to find effective treatments and preventative measures. But it's not like waving a magic fucking wand and making it all disappear, you dimwitted cock-juggler.If it were that easy, don't you think we would have done it already, you dense motherfucker? We're dealing with rapidly mutating viruses that evolve faster than your pea-sized brain can comprehend. It's a constant battle to keep up with these microscopic bastards. So before you start running your mouth and calling us lazy twats, why don't you take a moment to appreciate the hard work and dedication of medical professionals who are actually trying to make a difference, unlike your whiny, good-for-nothing ass. If you think you can do better, by all means, put on a lab coat and get to work, you fucking imbecile.

Until then, sit down, shut the fuck up, and let the experts handle it. We'll find a fix when we find a fix, and not a moment sooner, you impatient, ungrateful waste of space.

Why do people pretend medicine is science? There's mathematics and science that informs medicine (e.g., molecular biology, chemistry, statistics and hypothesis testing) but medicine itself is a practice not a science.

Does it ever bother you when people are asking MD students to be "scientists" when that's just not the important part of an MD compared to developing clinical practice expertise?

Are doctors trustworthy?
>used to endorse cigarettes, pic related
>used to perform lobotomies
>used to prescribe thalidomide and valproate to pregnant women, which caused birth defects
>used to perform blood-letting
Of course modern medicine has had many successes, but it continues to have harmful failures.

According to the article linked below, warnings about the birth defects caused by valproate weren't added to some boxes until 2016. Which is why there have been women in the last few decades who have had children with birth defects caused by sodium valproate prescribed by their doctors.

If you are in the US, then yes it is a great career in basically every way. In Europe though, not really. Nurses in Europe are basically just PCTs/CNAs. I don't even think nurses there can pass meds or do most nursing skills that are done in the US, besides wiping asses, but maybe an anon who works in European healthcare can add more to this. Yeah, it is really good. No IVs, no NG tubes, no trach care, none of that retarded shit so you don't need to worry about that stuff really. I maybe do a foley on a meemaw every blue moon but that's really it. Just PO and IM meds for the most part. The tradeoff, however, is that you need to git gud at de-escalation and just talking to pts in general. Recognizing mental queues, not letting yourself be manipulated, what to say and when to say it. Also you will always be at risk of violence in BHU, so you will have to learn how to take down aggressive patients. You will be trained in all of this if you decide to go ahead with psych, but that is what you have to ask yourself before going into psych. Are you able to handle anything a patient says and not let it get to you? Are you able to circumvent power struggles? Are you fine with there always being a significant risk of being attacked? If so, then yes it is way easier than med surg.

Hello ESL faggot who shouldn't be allowed in the country or to study/practice medicine. Nobody refers to this as "advice". Advice is akin to guidance and most people from a first world shit hole would instead immediately assume advice in the context of /med/ means USLME, residency, school, career and other questions automatically. You don't because English isn't your first language and having answered a question to your third world brain means you "they have been advised". Do not answer personal medical questions or speculate on them if you really wanted to split hairs is better. Thanks for making things harder for the rest of us and depressing our salaries. You'll never be a real doctor.

much more lenient accredidation requirements that have only loosened in recent years. DO schools that used to be on probation are now on regular or even "exceptional" accredidation despite still having a lot of issues. DO schools can start with significantly larger class sizes AND are not as limited by class size expansion

many DO schools also do not have home hospitals or enough clinical affiliates, and will force students to move out of state for 3rd year rotations. my school is fortunate to have all local rotations, though scheduling 4th year is completely on our own with no help

False. "Schizoid" is just what comes out of a retard's mouth when they want to turn "schizophrenic" into an insult and they assume "schizoid" means "schizophrenic-like". Like "negroid" and "caucasoid". Only since they're retarded they don't know what they're talking about, and anyone who does sees through their spunky edgy (retarded) banter-oriented persona.

Hint, google the following.
Cluster A
Schizoid
Schizotypal
Schizophrenia
Empty schizoid core
Structural dissociation
Dead mother complex
Narcissistic personality disorder and schizotypal overlap. My assumption is shared underlying machinery between the two, involved in dissociation and compartmentalization. See also inverted and collapsed narcissist, mortification, narcissistic elation, fantasy defenses, etc.

The validity of the DSM is anothe rmatter entirely, given that it was simply created so insurance companies would have criteria and diagnostic codes to be charged under, and secondly as a political and social weapon of control. But not everything they came up with is total garbage, just have to take it with a grain of salt. The problem with things like NPD for example is in eg the DSM V I think a person needed to meet at least 4 criteria, but there were 10 total criteria. So you could have two people diagnosed NPD who have zero trait overlap. It's all retarded.

The ICD is slightly better. Stuff like structural dissociation, internal family systems model, cPTSD, etc are better descriptors and less needlessly pathologizing in many cases.

The biological, dietary, environmental toxicity, early childhood trauma induced brain damage, psychotropic prescription drugs given during development, etc is another conversation entirely. Maim the body, you maim the mind. Maim the mind, it will be reflected on the body. The two are connected.

But yeah. Anyone using the term schizoid in the wild, 9 times out of 10 they're just bullshitting along with a term they know nothing about. It's telling

Schizoids do present with similar features to schizophrenia, such as isolation. Whether it has an association or not is still debatable. Classically, individuals with schizophrenia are usually isolated not by choice but due to psychosis. Obviously, not all individuals with schizophrenia would be isolated, but classical schizophrenia often entails isolation. For example, an individual with schizophrenia experiencing persecutory delusions would be isolated due to fear of being attacked by X. The reason behind this isolation is what differentiates between a schizoid and an individual with schizophrenia. Moreover, isolated individuals with minimal social interaction (i.e. schizoid) tend to develop schizophrenia, especially when they are under stress.

I'm just curious, why are you so upset by a label that changes constantly? Did someone call you a schizoid and you did not like that?

especially if you are a specialist, it's basically guaranteed access to some deal or other. just enough to corrupt your soul bit by bit
if you have any sort of leadership position - ofc it's much easier. pharma people basically actively contact you then

These threads are so pathetic.

You people are pathetic. It seriously is like you're robots trained on television. You talk like you're in a sitcom, or an episode of Family Guy or some other garbage. You literally talk, think, and act that way. It's pathetic and you're fucked up. You're not clever, you're funny, you're not smart or powerful, you didn't have "got em" moment, you're not bantering, it's just sad and defective behavior.

You're defective. Broken. Fucked up. Empty, needy, insecure. Everyone sees through you immediately wherever you go, they just humor you out of convenience. The fact that you think you've flipped things around i your mind to tell yourself you're smart, freer, stronger, smarter, better off, of a higher status and position, by becoming a pharma prostitute, is just the cherry on top.

You're not even worth capping it off with a "kys". You're closer to an animal, a malformed child in an adult's body. You live in penetration world. You tell yourself the way that you can penetrate is by submitting to penetration. It's a sexual dominance ritual. Hence you are a "whore". Your body and mind are a glorified cum bucket. You are their fields to sow and reap. You are a puppet, a hollow plaything. Any real person would look at you in nothing but pity and disgust. You know this, so you go and suck cock for attention and some scraps kicked your way.

>but they have to pass the same licensing and residency tests

not really true. bottom of the class retards in DO school usually only stick to comlex (anyone who is applying FM). also, people are stupid and think a Pass/Fail step 1 is pointless to take (even though programs filter this), so you do have some smarter students that only take level 1 but do take step 2

also, most fellowships in general dont really care about step 3 score so lot of DOs that did take step 1 and 2, will just take level 3

FM is the only specialty where 99% of programs are fine with only comlex 1 and 2. but FM makes up a huge portion of DOs

In these surgeries occasionally the prothesis becomes dislocated and the only way to fix it is more surgery, and subsequent surgeries are always less successful than prior ones. I hate being put to sleep with anesthesia. We don't know the long term effects of it. And what about metal leeching? Now I have a fucking titanium piston in my ear. And the surgery is irreversible they obliterated my stapes. No going back.

I know you guys said no advice but hey where else am I gonna go? I have nowhere to go at this time of the night. So here's my shot.

I haven't made an appointment with an urologist (yet) but I have to know if anyone else has gone through this.

I've been feeling this sort of not too severe pain this this area. At this I feel it near the base of my penis, sometimes in this area but as if it was near my left nut.

I don't know why or what caused it. I am 29. I don't have sex all that often and when I do it's with only one person and with a condom. I am not circumcised.

But this pain comes and goes but its been present for weeks and I just don't know what it is or what it could be.

If I move my penis to the right I can feel it as if it was something "muscular" like a "pull" in this part. But it's not like I am doing stuff with it, I don't really masturbate all that much and when I do It was just, you know, a quick nut.

I know this is not the place but if anybody knows or has felt this, could you just shed some light?

Doctors function on a religion of uncaused causes. They'll always try to strike fear into you, and tell you that without them you'll decay and suffer. And with them you'll slow the decay and ease the suffering. In reality your issue probably has an actual cause, and the promised slow(er) decay is simply due to their treatments being poisonous symptom reduction, whereas fixing the cause would simply fix the issue outright.

It makes me think of everything they tell people with MS, parkinsons, cancer, whatever. Filling their mind with how they're going to wither and die, and then giving them test after test after test to document and show them how they're being maimed and losing themselves bit by bit. You have to megadose or your blood levels will never rise. Take 50,000 IU or so for a month or so. Then drop down to a maintainance dose of 5-15k. Taking 5000 a day will never do anything, period. That's why they suggest it. Research has been done and it's known that at 5k/day blood levels remain low months later. It doesn't work. You have an active inflammatory process and until you reach a threshold dose it's just going to waste and burn through anything you put in.

IMO a lot is recognizing your own patterns of thought in these situations, people start making fear driven assumptions and then spiral into further scenarios based on these that up the panic further. Yes, I'm trying to tell the dude to do MD or bust because you can't differentiate yourself with Step 1 anymore. Beyond that DO schools have a lot of other issues such as being graded, and being more expensive, etc.

I'd say to pursue another profession entirely if you don't get into an MD school. Do not believe Reddit when they say DO schools are okay. Every DO student would be an MD if they had the choice.

you could match into all of those pretty reliable with a DO

>>16084515

is sort of correct. MD is always better and 99% of DO students would be MD if they could. That said I don't think it's so bad that you should choose another profession. At the end of the day you get the same scope and pay. Better to be a DO then not be a Doctor at all if that's what you want to do.

Anonymous No. 16084522

>>16084355
nah don't listen to that anon. don't get me wrong MD is better but DO isn't so bad that you'd drop the school entirely. it's just generally a shittier time in med school and harder to match into competitive specialties. you can still match into all the shit you listed though without much trouble. matching into FM/Path basically just requires having a pulse.

absolutely do not go Caribbean though.

I never understood this attitude. Besides the plethora of reasons I listed on why MD schools are better, it's terrible to say that anon should try to settle with going to a DO school. It's better to aim high and fail than to be happy with settling.

High CK levels typically indicate musclular damage, seeing as the renal system filters it in the nephron, but a "surplus" means that a muscular system is releasing it into the blood in greater amounts than can be cleared normally.

Yeah dude, a lot of people at the state research school here go for a masters so they look good for the 520 MCAT school we have. Typically the masters is in biomedical science where you can do classes like pathophys and surgical anatomy. The uni has 4 morgue freezers, so you get to work with cadavers before getting into a med school.

Nah, you still need research, decent writing, good GPA and good ECs for those schools in addition to the MCAT. The MCAT will do heavy lifting for mid tier schools but for high tier schools it's more of a barrier to entry.

You are correct but it's about setting high standards for yourself. You should always strive for self-mastery and going to a MD over a DO school is one way you can do that in regards to medicine. Likewise, that's why I never understood why someone would want to be a PA. The word, "assistant" is literally in the job title lol.

Anonymous No. 16085617

Sure, but you have to be realistic. I'm in agreement that you should absolutely aim for an MD school, but if for whatever reason you can't get in and you're totally comfortable going into primary care.. just go DO. It's not worth giving up years of an Attending salary just for your pride when you'll end up doing the same thing in the end. It's not like you're settling to be a PA or an NP or some shit.

yes, anything that gets you meaningful patient interaction (or something where you can BS that you did like most do)
>do without it?
I mean don't get me wrong it's definitely possible to get into medical school without research, getting into an absolute top school without it is going to be pretty difficult barring some other extreme x-factor (like being a veteran).

But the difference between a top tier MD school and a low or mid tier MD school isn't really all that vast if I'm being honest. It mostly just amounts to prestige for easier Residency matching, so no I don't think it's worth going back to try to get research and it's definitely not over.

Hospice volunteering is easy EASY hours.

Hospice people are the easiest dying people to be around. If you're so averse to being around dying people that you wouldn't do it to get into medicine you sure as fuck would have an awful time in medicine. Unless you pick some outpatient pussy job
