My stepdad faggot always knows everything better. He is mostly right, but sometimes, like in this example he defends stupid shit with all his certainty, dignity and superiority. So he told me that the longer the screwdriver then more leverage it has on a screw and therefore one needs to use less power to twist it. I obviously said the leverage rules don't apply here, but I wasn't sure how to explain it.

Who's a retard here?

You obviously. Try removing a rusty screw using short and long screwdriver and see which one is easier.

I know you'd gain more leverage of you extend the lever perpendicularly e.g. using a wrench but I don't know about a longer screwdriver

it might be a tower of babel moment, he could mean >>16067134
which wouldn't technically be leverage, it just means you can grab the screwdriver completely with both hands, instead of with part of one hand.

I don't know

No, I specifically told him to confirm he means a rule of leverage and he did.

You can easily test this to find out. Drive a screw deep into a piece of wood, then try to unscrew with short and long screw drivers with different handle lengths but same handle widths. I bet the one with the longer handle would win because when you use a screw driver, it's never 100% perpendicular.

I actually did test it and I didn't see a difference.

that's the only thing that makes sense in this subject.

A bigger screwdriver has more leverage between the head of the screw and the tip of the screwdriver.
A bigger handle has more leverage. Many screwdrivers are actually shaped such that you can grip them with a wrench for a reason.

But the LENGTH of the screwdriver from handle to tip has nothing to do with leverage on a screw. Only if you were using the screwdriver as a lever for something else.

Real solid wood or fiberboard? What's the difference in the length of the screwdrivers?

Yeah, cool. But how do you explain it in terms of angles and fulcrum?

Can't remember, but it was in normal wood probably. One screwdriver was like 12cm in length in total and the other one was around 33cm.
