Do they test for fent if an old person has an opiate script? Working on a novel and idea is protaganist murders a boomer by adding fent to their tea and it looks like they just abused pain pills while on a CPAC and had normal respitory distess...

By novel do you mean you're trying to kill grandma for a lil early inheritance?
and trying to see how easy you can get away with murder?

99% sure they always check for opiates, and other drugs

if they're prescribed fent/has medical records relating to any fentanyl or anyother strong drugs I believe it's the first thing they check is if and how much fent is in their system before they kicked the bucket

>Drugs that can cause false-positive fentanyl results include risperidone, trazodone, and even labetalol. If we do see a positive on a screening immunoassay, it may make sense to order a confirmatory test to determine which substances the patient was taking.
You should become a doctor before trying to prescribe medications under the counter.

At minimum they would conduct an autopsy and note the conspicuous lack of pill remnants in the digestive system.

Probably HPLC. I'm not aware of any wet bench tests for opiates and FTIR won't tell you shit

Ah interesting I'd assume they break down basically into a powder by next morning
