Chinese lab leak. I've no idea why the MSM were so eager to call it a baseless conspiracy, but it's quite likely imo. There are other parts that may or may not be conspiratorial (NIH funding and stuff like that), but that virology lab in Wuhan is absolutely a prime candidate for it.

zoonosis had been ongoing throughout the region and the lab in Wuhan had numerous research papers and surveillance on that very thing for years. It's simply a matter of balance of evidence. Zoonosis was a known phenomenon, warned about, warnings ignored, and the predicted outcome occurred. There's no reason absent more evidence to believe the result was a "lab leak" given the many years of documented zoonotic transmission that very same lab was warning about.

SARS-CoV-2 is the product of gain-of-function research in the Wuhan Institute of Virology in Wuhan, China. The WIV gets much of its funding from EcoHealth Alliance, an American not-for-profit NGO, which gets much of its funding from the NIH, lead by Francis Collins, and the NIAID, formerly lead by Anthony Fauci. Peter Daszak, president of EcoHealth Alliance, is a former employee of the CDC.
The closest know relative to SARS-CoV-2 is a bat betacoronavirus called RaTG13 discovered in bat droppings in a cave in Yunnan, China in 2013, and sent to the WIV for research. RaTG13 is not known to cause infection or illness in humans.
SARS-CoV-2 likely leaked from the WIV in the fall of 2019, but possibly as early as the summer. The circumstances surrounding its leak are unknown, though ensuing global events leave the door open for malfeasance.
