peak oil is fake and gay, that propaganda has been around for over a century and its always been a lie

Ugh...I can wait for Peak Fitness, where the genetic lineage of humanity degenerates into a subhuman blight.

>What happens when/if the oil runs out?
Fusion will go live in a matter of months and nobody will put two and two together.

>Is peak oil real?
Considering recent economic and political changes, probably.
>the oil runs out?
Not happening this century, there are plenty of sources of crude oil, it's just not economically viable to extract from them right now.
>What happens
In general? Probably just find some other sources of power. We can make fuels from biological materials if we really need to but otherwise it may just make more sense to use batteries for a lot of stuff

Fear created the political pressure to stop many of those things from being major problems in the first place. "Nothing happened" because millions of people intervened

/pol/ was sure it was going to be a massive depopulation event. Until the MSM started talking about it, at which point it became a nothingburger.

I'm not at all worried about it. We will eventually run out, but that goes for most every mineral on the planet. Personally, I'm much more concerned by the plummeting copper ore grades, but the media only gives a shit about fossil fuels. From the way things have gone in the past, every time we predict an end date we just find more. Dwindling reserves incentivises exploration, again just like every other finite material of which there are many. At any rate, Man has had the foresight to stockpile solid oil in our landfills, food, and water. The decomposition of plastics through pyrolysis just gets you back to square one. Boom, synthetic crude oil. Tie that process into the waste heat generated by an atomic power plant and you've just slashed your operating costs by orders of magnitude. Heating the damn thing would be the most expensive part so you wouldn't be able to make much of a profit otherwise.

This sounds economically ruinous.

Not if you have unlimited geothermal heat which we will soon

Peak Oil was real until white people invented fraking (and made it economical).

In reality though we’ll NEVER “run out” of fossil fuel; supply-vs-demand forces will control the supply as it runs out. It’ll just become too valuable to burn. Things WILL get more expensive though - that’s energy which has been built up over geological periods of time which only requires a fraction of its energy to extract. We should be using the abundance of the stuff to investing into the future — but the world peasants need to eat so fuck that.

Peak oil isn’t real because nonbelievers will be obliterated in a nuclear hellfire, as predicted in Revelations. Jesus will then return and give us designs for a fusion reactor that will power the vast CO2 scrubbers that will undo the damage we’ve done to the earth, and then he’ll reign over us in an eternal kingdom of peace and Christian brotherhood

If we had fusion reactors why would we even bother with oil? Peak oil would still happen
