You can produce minimal amounts of energy from pee by allowing it to to rot until it starts gassing off ammonia. Ammonia can be used as a fuel but not easy since the reaction product is nitric acid.
Its easier to sell the urea and use the proceeds to pay a power company to sell you electricity.

Nobody is saying it isn't. The assertion of the person developing it is that it's less energy intensive than current methods, which are not distillation because distillation is more expensive then their method of treatment.

There are ways to minimize the energy consumption. Anon mentioned a simple one which is to heat your feedstock with the condensing gasses. Vapor compression distillation takes that a step further by boiling the solution with the compressed gasses which means it needs a relatively small initial amount of energy to get started and then you just have to put in as much energy as you lose as the process continues.
