Why is biodiversity important?

It isn't, according to Darwin's theory of evolution, biodiversity develops or goes extinct as a function of environment.

We depend on many different organisms but i dont think we need as much biodiversity as we have now. In europe we lost a lot biodiversity because of the ice age, deforestation and hunting but its still going well. I also think maybe somewhen in future we wont depend on the ecosystem because of technological progress and then biodiversity dosent really matter anymore and is just a question of personal preference and maybe moral.

Resilience. If you predominantly have a single species, let's say potatoes, and a disease hits, let's say blight, then suddenly most of your ecosystem will die. If the single species only is a tiny fraction, then only a small fraction of the ecosystem will be affected.

for the same reason life itself is important. whatever reason that is.
not just biodiversity of species though, biodiversity of ecotypes, and that includes human ecotypes. Which are important to preserve.
Why? It's all about expanding life. If life is good, then to have the greatest amount of life in each area of the universe as possible, then you'd need to promote biodiversity across the universe, and get it to the highest number possible.
However, if life is neither good nor bad, then it doesn't matter much if things die or live, including humans.
If life is bad, then it should all die.
Now, I don't know which of them is true, but I make the assumption that life is good.

It is not. No one can say how many life forms SHOULD there be and the question is absurd.

God wants different things (animals, human races) to exist since more conscious agents operating within psychophysicality lead to a higher total accumulated sum knowledge of The Absolute about Itself
Everything in evolution is leading towards unity with The One
