🧵 Neuralink
Anonymous at Wed, 20 Mar 2024 21:02:03 UTC No. 16088585
Apparently Neuralink is live streaming an update on X in about half an hour.
https://twitter.com/neuralink/statu
Any guesses on what it'll be about? An official update on the status of their human trials perhaps?

it's live, a guy with the neuralink implanted in him, quadraplegic, paralyzed from shoulders down. he's playing chess on a computer with his brain.

he also plays civ6, and i guess whatever else since it seems like he has full control of his computer with his mind

>be quadreplegic

it's cool and all, but blackrock neurotech is still ahead of neuralink. blackrock lets you have control over robot arms. who knows when neuralink will get there, but probably soon since they have so many resources backing them. blackrock is still worse though because you have a big ass apparatus connected to you, whereas neuralink is a little implant.
Anonymous at Wed, 20 Mar 2024 21:43:12 UTC No. 16088660
they will have more info/livestreams in the days to come
but this is fucking awesome, I wonder how long its going to take for neuralink to get to the point where they can make a neural bridge to fix the paralysis

Live stream ended, but they promised they'd post more updates from Nolan (the quadriplegic guy).

neuralink is wireless
you have other players in this space too, some are noninvasive or minimally invasive like implanting through blood vessels
we live in interesting times
brain chips, AI, reusable rockets, humanoid robots

Neuralink will really take off once they release stuff on that level.
So far they've just been re-inventing what was already made, but if they show they're capable of inventing entire new tech they'll rise up just like SpaceX did.

i think elon manhandling the FDA may be the biggest help that neuralink gets. it can take decades to get a product like this to the point where you can implant it into test subjects, yet neuralink has been able to move pretty quickly. >>16088668 mentioned the blood vessel implant, aka stentrode, which is an stent implant into the brain's blood vessels. stentrode is much older than neuralink and less invasive than neuralink, yet i'd say that they're barely ahead of elon's company.
>stentrode started in 2010
>first implant in 2019

most people dont like neuroscience topics unless it's bullshit like mental illness of trannies or the philosophy of consciousness. even most doctors supposedly hate neurology and want nothing to do with it. people just seem to not like neuroscience in general.
