How much should you lie on your PhD application?

Not at all. I got burned out on mine. Go to the best place for you which means not taking on more than you can handle. Various duties will require your experience so don't just take on random topics nor jobs you won't be able to pull off.

As much as it sounds reasonable and you can pull it off later.

put all the lies you can, nobody is checking them unless it's easy to do so. PhD application is also a nepotism game so your LoRs (which is only used to gate keep less privileged, less well connected students) is much more important than the rest.
