He sounds like your typical right wing boomer who is just stuck in the past. Peter Higgs was literally doing research in the 1950s before peer review even existed. At the time, pretty much anyone could publish, which made it easier for people like Higgs to do their research, but that also meant that conspiracy theorists and quack scientists could publish their work as well. Higgs is probably too old to understand, but that kind of a system wouldn't work in the age of the internet and mass communications because disinformation spreads faster than the truth. You can see that on 4chan, Twitter, TikTok, etc. People are just more interested in gossip and conspiracies and sensationalized over the top disinformation than in the boring and complicated reality of things.
